TRG’s Ongoing Efforts for Flood Relief

The recent floods in the Northern areas of Pakistan have caused immense destruction and devastation. The magnitude of this calamity is yet to be realized, the damage yet to be overcome. One such catastrophic blow was suffered by the citizens of Batagram (located in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwan) when the bridge linking Batagram city to the other side of the Swat River collapsed. This left the locals with no other option but to pay to cross the river via the only available, severely dilapidated boat. The next best alternative was to use the newly-installed chairlift, which was rather costly and even more dangerous (especially for the children).

On 1st February 2011, TRG, in collaboration with Kawish Welfare Trust, took the initiative by generously donating a very special boat to help the victims of this disaster. Our representative, Amir Hassan (Director IT - TRG Pakistan), spear-headed this project; which involved not only the design but also the construction of the custom-built boat. The vessel was presented to the Kawish representatives during a simple ceremony - the highlights of which included performances by overjoyed school children followed by recitations from the Holy Quran.

The boat is free for students and senior citizens, while salaried passengers are requested to pay a nominal fee which will be used to cover expenses like fuel, skippers’ salary and maintenance of the boat.

Residents of Batagram have expressed overwhelming gratitude to TRG for this essential contribution which has made their lives so much easier and will continue to do so. Likewise, Kawish Welfare Trust is also deeply thankful to TRG for sponsoring this meaningful project.
