Rahim Lalani speaks at CIO-P@SHA Campus Conversations
The CIO – P@SHA Campus Conversations, an initiative sponsored by trg tech to bridge the gap between industry and academia, kicked off with its first session at FAST University on 17th March 2010. Rahim Lalani, Head of trg tech, was present as a panelist from the industry along with CEOs from other IT firms. The academia panel comprised of Professor Zafar Nasir, Head of Department (CS), Dr. Zubair Sheikh, Director FAST Karachi Campus and students from FAST.
Moderated by Jehan Ara, President of P@SHA, both panels discussed the issues and challenges they faced while interacting with each other. Employers faced difficulty in capacity building due to the lack of experience and inadequate skill set found in fresh graduates. Students on the other hand had concerns regarding the industry’s expectations from them. A dearth of training and internship opportunities was highlighted which could provide students with the required finesse and technical experience to make it in the growing local IT market. Rahim Lalani expressed the need of the hour was for students to concentrate on their curriculum and make the most of their four years at university with a sound GPA to prove their hard work. Commitments were made by each industry representative to help provide a solution for the issues raised. Trg tech would continue its on-going University Affiliate Scheme, providing internships, mentorships and conducting technical talks in order to groom and guide Pakistan’s future tech leaders.
